• The first Olympic games were held in a greek city called Olympia in 776BC.

• The first two letters of the Greek alphabet - alpha and beta - have given us the word 'alphabet'.
   

• Pegasus: one of the best known mythological creatures in Greek Mythology. He is a winged horse, usually white. His father was Poseidon, it is said he was created from the blood of Medusa. He was instructed by Zeus to bring lightening and thunder from Olympus. He was creator of Hippocrene (a fountain). He was captured by the hero Bellerophon who rode him to defeat a monster, the Chimera.
